My Eid - Day #2

Eid day two was a quieter affair, which was spent at my mum's house with the sisters and the nieces and nephews. My parents are currently getting work done to their house, so there wasn't much opportunity for anything fancy, but it was a nice opportunity to relax with the girls after a busy Eid and enjoy the gorgeous sun.

I opted for something comfortable to wear for this day, which was a comfy embroidered outfit by Sana Safinaz which I purchased a couple of years ago from Dubai, and which is in my favourite shade of purple. I kept the look simple with white flats and simple jewellery, with a plain white clutch.

This is how I wore the outfit, which felt quite pretty on. The kameez for this was originally a longer length, which I altered by cutting to a shorter length and moving the hem-piece higher - more about this in a separate post!

My older niece and nephews were looking quite smart on the day too - my niece wore a pretty, flowy batwing dress with a sparkly statement necklace and bracelet, and the boys wore matching shirts and chinos whihc were perfect for the summer weather.

And of course the baby nieces wore pretty summer dresses which looked lovely - I loved the maxi dress on the older toddler, and the boho-chic summer print dress on the little one!

I didn't get to take pictures of the food, which were mainly the same from the day before (plus more cake and chocolate!) but it was a lovely day. We also got some very cool presents from each other - I think I agree with my sister that this one was the coolest one though, check her post out and let me know what you think of the candle idea!

Eid is coming...!

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten to post about the wedding! I'm still collating all of the photographs I have for the next post, and I'm hoping I'll get some of the professional ones in time to post too - fingers crossed I'll have some to post, especially as I was really impressed with my photographers and I'm itching to see my pictures!

In the meantime, I'm sure you are as excited as I am about Eid coming up this weekend, which is always an excuse to go and oogle at some beautiful clothes. I'm a bit spoilt for choice this year as I have new outfits from the in-laws and from my mum, so I didn't need to buy anything new this year, but I still decided to be nosey and had a look around.

I loved this collection of ombre outfits below, which my sisters and I loved, they're chic, not too heavy and have beautiful colours (we all liked different colours, I'm leaning towards the corally-tomato one myself!).

I also though this would make a perfect look for a mehndi for sisters of the bride, the green dress is missing from this picture but there were more colours in-store including a darker blue, purple and shades of green which looked very pretty together. I did consider ombre outfits for my sisters for my own mehndi, but it didn't go with my theme (or my outfit!), and I also didn't see this until way after everyone bought their outfits, but these are really pretty and would have made an amazing alternative.

I'll be posting my Eid outfit soon once I've taking some decent photographs (and decide which shoes to wear) - what are you going to wear?

HIGH STREET DESIGNS: RDC's Ombre Gown

I saw this lovely outfit by RDC London, which which really caught my eye, and which I loved because of the pretty, vibrant ombre colours. I think this would look great for a reception, or even a heavy registry outfit, it's a really pretty, fresh look and the velvet piece at the bottom sets it off particularly.

What do you think of this dress?

EYE CANDY WISH LIST: The Kim Kardashian Kollection Ombre Jacket

I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of the Kardashians, I don't really follow them and I don't know much about them. I did hear about the new Kim Kardashian Kollection, however, which is a new collection being retailed in high street stores Dorothy Perkins, and loved this jacket, an ombre-style nude and greyish-dusky purple colours which I can imagine looking great with black pants and black heels (there's a dress too, but I like the jacket more). These have sold out quite quickly, and I can't quite decide myself whether I want one or not.

What do you think of this? Is it something you would wear, or do you think it's not a classic piece?

KAPRAY SHAPRAY: Raveena Tandon in Blue Ombre Anarkali

I've always been a Raveen Tandon fan since the 90s when she was quite popular, and its always nice to see glimpses of her in occasional events and television shows. I love the fact that she looks quite modestly and well put together, from her outfits to her hair and her accessories.

This beautiful deep blue anarkali dress is just one outfit of hers worn by her at a recent event,  which really appealed to me (although I haven't been able to find out who the designer is), because of the rich colours and the simplicity of it. I've seen similar designs before by various designers (I even have a similar design myself!), but I like how elegant this looked on Raveena and the fact that there's hardly any embellishment on it.

Anyone know who the designer of this could be? Do let me know!

KAPRAY SHAPRAY: Nomi Ansari's Ombre Dresses

I've always been a huge fan of ombre shaded outfits, as well as a lot of Nomi Ansari's designs, and these dip-dye style designs are a beautiful combination of the two. Although these are from Nomi Ansari's collection from 2010, the vibrant colours, the flattering shape of the dress and the actual ombre shades are still very wearable for today's occasions, and without being too heavy on the detail.

Images from here and here

I think these would make spectacular outfits for a mehndi occasion, or even for the bride herself on a mehndi. The yellow one really appeals to me because of how colourful it is, and how surprisingly feminine it looks, but it is the last one in green which I love the most. It's such an effortless, simple look with the focus being on the cut of the dress and the beautiful colour, rather than any extravagant embellishments or complicated designs. Some very pretty outfits on the catwalk being shown here, with the ombre trend seeming to be one which may last a while, in my opinion.

Copycat DESIGNS & DRESSES #5: Gul Style's Ombre & Sequinned Dress

Another dress in my wardrobe, one of my favourites this time because of the vivid colour and flattering shape of the dress. It has a lot of similarities to the design below by Gul's Style, although with different colours and my version is less heavier and the original. My dress was not really an intentional copy of the Gul Style design but as I liked the dip-dye effect and the embellishment so much, it ended up looking very similar.

My actual dress is below, with  bright shades of blue, green, teal and navy blue, and bronze esequins and beads. It was originally sleeveless by I added sheer navy churidar sleeves, and the dress also came with royal blue churidar bottoms. The dress itself was made from georgette, which was fully lined to add some weight to the dress and make it more swishy. It is slightly A-Line shape with a velvet and bronze hem, and pom-pom balls.

The embellishment of the dress is mainly bronze sequins and beads compressed together, along with various shades of blue embroidered flowers all over the bust to compliment the dress. There was als some diamante along the bust and the ankles of the churidars, to make it look more sparkly.

THE GOOD: I love love LOVE the colours of this dress, the vibrant peacock blue, bold navy and aquamarine green, which blends together so well. These have always been one of my favourite colour combinations, and coupled with the bronzey-gold work and the rich velvet hem makes a lovely outfit. I also loved the beaded  pom-poms (above) hanging from the dress and from the ends of the dupatta, as it gives a slightly traditional look to it. The weight of the dress felt lovely when on, as the shape of the dress was very flattering without being too fitted and uncomfortable. I'm sure you can tell I absolutely love this dress (indeed it was love at first sight for me when I saw it) and I can't say enough about how much I love it. I also love that this is a long lenght dress which still had churidar trousers, rather than just being a maxi style, which felt a little more modest and also stylish.

THE BAD: The dress was bust of the dress was little big, even after I had this taken in, and that's due to the amount of work on it which made it slightly harder to take in more without damaging the work. Also, the hem of the dress would have looked nice with a bit more embellishment on it rather than just a bronzey hem and velvet work. But that's not really a complaint than an afterthought really.

THE UGLY: The price. Yikes. This dress did not come cheap, although it still brings twinkles to my eyes.

OVERALL: This dress felt very glamorous on, and the colours (the colours!) were beautiful, and met my tastes completely. This is one of my favourite outfits in my wardrobes because of it glam-factor as well as the fact that it still has a slight traditional twist to it. I've seen this dress made in several other colours (orange and purple, however, didn't take my fancy) and I think I got a good deal. It may not be quite up to the level of a Gul Style dress but it's still a very pretty dress. Although this is quite a formal wear outfit, which means I can't just wear it anywhere, it's not too overdone or heavy, and it looks satisfyingly sparkly when on :)
