FEROZA POST: Our New Brooches!

We've added a new collection at Feroza Online, some beautiful flower brooches! Here's a few of the brooches we have in stock, which we think would look great on jacket lapels or as hijab accessories, or even as decor on a beautiful outfit to a wedding.

We've added brooches in several colours to suit different tastes (and outfits!), and we hope you love them as much as we do - personally, I'm loving the silver and pearl one because I can imagine wearing it with a coral pink and silver outfit :)

Please also do let us know what you think of these, we're looking to add some new collections very soon and would love feedback.

GLAMOROUS ACCESSORIES: Chicciola Rings by de Grisogono

I think these are just beautiful, pretty rings of precious stones by de Grisogono, and while I'm sure they're not exactly cheap, they make some serious eye-candy and definitely look unique - I've certainly never seen rings like these before, their cuts and colours just look amazing.

Someone want to get me a bunch of these as an Eid present, maybe? No?

COLOUR COMBINATIONS LOVES: Grey and Deep Red

This is a colour combination I've rarely seen, (perhaps once or twice), and eve though grey has been very 'in' this year and last year, I'm still finding it a classy colour which is very wearable. I've seen grey paired with peach, hot pink, teals and even various greens, but I love the deep red accents of this outfit here, which looks striking without being too dull or bright.

Personally, I'd wear a matching deep red lipstick with this too, but I do like how the red is not too much and doesn't overpower the outfit so that grey is still the main colour. I've worn grey before (such as this maxi dress) but I would love to try this colour combination - I even think this would make a great reception colour combo for a bride.

GLAMOROUS ACCESSORIES: Sparkly Clutch Bags by Butler and Wilson

I visited jewellery and accessories store Butler and Wilson at their main store in Bond Street, central London yesterday, and loved the bright, colourful (and slightly odd!) jewellery and clutch bags they had, although some were a bit too adventurous for me!

These were my favourites, although I LOVE this flamingo one too - I like how cute the elephant bag looks, although I can't imagine it being very practical, and the price certainly isn't cheap! What do you think of these?

GLAMOROUS ACCESSORIES: Huge Green & Gold Kundan Ring

Yep, another huge kundan ring! Saw these lovelies in a shop called Ramsha (in Ilford, East London) which I really liked, there were a couple of colours, bright blue, amber browny-gold and these two, a lovely pink and a teal-y green. I was quite torn between these two as both looked really pretty in their own colours, and they would go well with a lot of my outfits; the pink looks really pretty and girly and the green is just a really lovely shade of colour which really appealed to me.

So yep, I went with the green. I was quite pleased with the choice too, it's a nice, rich green which goes well with the white stones and the gold metal.
The ring itself is quite huge, but looks very well made and fits very securely on my hand :)

And here's an idea of just how big it is on my hand (it seriously looks like a battle armour shield for my hand!), and how much of a statment piece it is.

I managed to snap this up for just £12, and last I checked there were still a couple of rings left in case you wanted one! I think these make really nice, traditional pieces which can really jazz up an outfit, and I've seen these worn on mehndi nights which look great when you want a minimal jewellery-look.

What do you think of it? Think I should have gone for the pink?

Copycat DESIGNS & DRESSES #7: Red & Navy Velvet Anarkali

It's been a while since I posted one of these, so I thought I'd post about a recent order that I made which I was quite happy with. The design I got wasn't an exact copy of anything specific, although it had parts which were taken from more than one outfit, as I made a lot of changes, but it has a very similar style as these two designs below. I got this dress from one of the designers from the valuable Paklinks site, after a lot of browsing and reading reviews!

The first design is this pretty anarkali from RDC, which I blogged about recently, (although I found it a little too expensive for my taste!). The second design is a little more casual and less embellished, but I really like it because of the cut of the dress, and the fact that it has fitted long sleeves which I find more practical for myself. I also like the drape of the dress and the fact that it is made of panels which give the dress slightly more volume (which can be measured in levels of swishy-ness!)

Image from Zeenat Style

This is the final dress as I ended up with it, with all of the things I wanted which were mostly taken from the above two designs. The velvet part looks black in some pictures but it was actually a deep navy blue which I thought would make a classical combination with the deep red - which is different from the dark brown of the original RDC design. I also originally wanted to make the work a dull gold, but against the cool colours of the dress, I ended up picking silver because it looked more striking. I took the main shape of the dress from the second design above (the Zeenat one), while the navy velvet portions came from the first design (the RDC part). I also kept the small flower patterns all over the dress so that it wouldn't look too empty, although I reduced the amount of motifs as this would be cheaper, and also less crowded, and made them a bit more spaced out. Otherwise, this is quite a standard anarkali dress, which came with silk churidar trousers and a velvet lined duppatta scarf.

This is the bodice pat of the dress at the top, which had a really pretty look to the bodice, and also glittered in a nice silvery way without being too glittery or over the top. I love how tightly made each of the paisley designs are, and how neat they look, especially with the added sequins and the small splash of red in the diamontes. The velvet part of the original RDC design was quite heavily embellished, which is one of the reasons why the cost for this outfit is quite high - and this is something which I had to reduce quite a lot to get a reasonable price for.

The design was mainly taken from this pattern image below, rather than copying the work on either of the two original designs above. This was a design which was suggested by the designer after I stated that I wanted a paisley motif, and it was something I really liked the look of. I wanted something quite intricate as well as not too heavy (as this would have affected the cost) and I'm really happy with the way the bodice looked in the finished product.

The hem of the dress is something which I absolutely LOVE, it feels nice and heavy without being too crowded, and was something which was continued all along the back of the dress. Again, this was very neatly and well-made, and looked very sparkly which flashes at the bottom of the dress. I also kept this hem at the bottom of the dress instead of slightly higher up like the RDC design, and wider than the Zeenat design to make it more of a feature of the dress.

The motif of this dress, again, came from a design that I found which I really liked the shape of, as it looks quite intricate and also quite solid in design. I think that the designer managed to capture this motif on the hem very well, and managed to make it look quite sparkly and detailed. I also like how the paisley design here worked well with the motifs on the bodice, which tied them together well and looked quite pretty together.

THE GOOD: The fit of the dress is perfect, and the work is of one of the best standards of metal-work and stitching I have seen for quite a long time. The designer and tailor were quite thorough with the details of the dress, which helped immensely as it helped me be clearer in conveying what I wanted. I also love the fact that this outfit is not too dressy, and the colours used are fairly classic ones, which will make the outfit more wearable over a long time. And of course, the hem of the dress and the paisley designs of the bodice are just beautiful!

THE BAD: I kept the dress length slightly shorter than the current trend of long dresses, since it made the dress more swishy and helped it hang better when I tried it on. I wouldn't have minded if the length was longer, but this is not really a big issue, but rather an afterthough, and was also due to the measurements which I gave. I like the colours I've used as well, although if I had time (and money) to burn, I'd love to look at different colour combinations (I suppose that's what Pinterest is for!) It would also be interesting to see what the dress would look like with perhaps a fuller skirt, although this would have added to the price because of the extra material, and again, this is an afterthought.

THE UGLY: Packing the dress away. I'm terrible at folding!

This is definitely a timeless design for me; although I've adapted two designs which are slightly more heavier and fashionable, I can imagine wearing my outfit quite a few times and being able to dress it up and/or down as appropriate. I also like how the outfit takes into consideration my concerns about modesty, such as the fact that the sleeves were fitted but not sheer, which is the case with a lot of outfits in the shops today. I haven't worn this outfit yet as I only received it a couple of weeks ago, but I'm sure I'll make good use of it during wedding season!

GLAMOROUS ACCESSORIES: The Top 5 Most Expensive Diamond Presents

Ice ice baby. Or something along those lines. We all like looking at sparkly things so here's a few of the most expensive diamonds which have been gifted to some lucky women, from all over the world.

5. Victoria Beckham's diamond studded bag

This bag, called The Silver Himalayan was given to Victoria B by her hubby as a Christmas present, featuring a 3 carat diamond on the lock. It's made from crocodile skin too but that's less sparkly or interesting.

4. The Elizabeth Taylor diamond given by Richard Burton

The famous 'Taylor-Burton' diamond was a gift from Taylor's then-husband, who got the raw diamond from South Africa. It's been sold a few times and is often seen as symbolic of their love.

3. Beyonce's engagement ring

Beyonce's beautiful 18 carat ring, currently valued at 5 million cool ones, and designed by jeweller Lorraine Schwartz. Apparently Beyonce wears a a $5000 imitation as a safety measure in public. Makes sense.

2. The Russain Orlov diamond

Count Grigory Orlov presented the Russian Empress, Catherine the Great with a diamond in 1798, after she lavished him with a palace, several hundreds of workers and servants, and bought him a country estate. The diamond itself is named Orlov and was fitted into the Empress' sceptre. It is considered priceless and has yet to be valued.

1. The Kohi Noor diamond

Probably one of the world's most famous diamonds (in my opinion anyways), this diamond came from India originally and belonged to its royalty. When India was taken over by the British, it was eventually given to Queen Victoria as a reluctant 'gift', although the size of the diamond has been reduced due to re-shaping for the Crown Jewels. Again, this has not been valued, but it is believed to be worth literally billions of pounds.

GLAMOROUS ACCESSORIES: Hand Cuffs as seen on Nicole Scherzinger

Nicole Scherzinger wore this pretty hand cuff (or hand bracelet) on one of the X Factor USA shows recently, and I thought it was an interesting idea for jewellery: a hand cuffs for your palm, rather than the usual traditional bracelets. The one Nicole has is made from diamonds in a pretty feathery shape, and looks quite dainty. Designed and created by sisters Katia and Sonia Gaydamak with their company Kabiri for their new collection Privee Jewellery, it is apparently a way to wear diamonds differently. Although this is actually not a new idea, having been drawn on from history such as the Mughal era, it's still a unique way of wearing jewellery which I've certainly not seen in fashion trends before.

The company currently is selling a similar design to the public which also has diamond stones and a delicate filigree design - although like Nicole's version, it doesn't come cheap, selling at over £8,000 (Nicole's version sells for £11,000 as well).

Jewellery images belong to Privee Jewellery collection

I'm not sure how popular this idea will be though, some have argued that it is easier and more sensible to wear a ring to create the same effect, and others have said that the hand-cuff just looks like a large knuckle-duster. I'm also not sure how quickly this trend will catch on; although some celebrities have already been seen wearing it, I can't really see this entering mainstream fashion in the same way  (and the cost doesn't help!) as I'm not sure whether it is the sort of thing which people may find practical. Either way, it's still an interesting way to bring some sparkle to your look :)
