BOLLYWOOD ISHTYLE: Aishwariya's 70s Chic in Vogue, India

I do like Aishwariya Rai Bachan, not only is she a beautiful woman, but she's very classy - in the way she handled criticism in the 'fat-debate' and in her discreet manners which keeps her being a style icon.

She's appeared in a photoshoot for Vogue India, featuring the former Miss World in 70's hair, casual-formal Tommy Hilfiger outfits, and a very natural looking beauty (I know she's got make-up on, but it doesn't look dramatic and she looks flawless, glowy).

I love that Ash kept to an almost casual look, focusings on her curves, her wavy locks and a very sensual image that focuses on her eyes and her beauty. She also comments that on the idea of a comback - Comeback? What comeback - "Why, she never went away."
Certainly, she's always been in the limelight - whether it was for her baby weight, for her fashion style or for her role as ambassador for more than one brand.

You can read a part of the interview here - what do you think of Aishwariya's new look? In the latest trend of bobcuts that are popping up here and there, I love Aishwariya's new fringe and new look, and will wait to see what else she will be offering.

BOLLYWOOD ISHTYLE: Aishwariya's Beautiful Gold & Black Look

Aishwariya Rai-Bachchan was seen recently opening some new stores for jewellery company Kalyan Jewellers - of which she is also a brand ambassador - wearing a beautiful black Sabyasachi dress with gold work to go with the gold jewellery she was wearing.

Aishwariya looks beautiful here, and there's something reminiscent of her earlier years of acting (the full lips remind me of her brown lipsticks from the '90s!), and her hair only adds to the youthful look she has going on. I love that she went for a simple, classy look, the dress Aishwariya's worn is understated and simple, and there's still a look of luxury with it which balances out perfectly with her jewellery.

It's nice to Aishwariya getting attention for something other than her weight, and that she's managed to still look amazing at the age of 40 without looking worn-out - I'm sure she's had help with her make-up too, but she really does look lovely here.

Bollywood Moments...

That moment when you sneak out of your own engagement to have a sneaky ciggy.

I have a suspicion that this is a Manish Malhotra outfit, worn by Katrina in a scene from Jab Tak Hai Jaan, as it has the signature look to it that a lot of his outfits do, not to mention the classic colour combination of blue and red.

While I like the outfit, it doesn't look very different to me, and it's doesn't really have a wow-factor to it. That said, it still is very pretty, and it can easily be copied for those wanting a similar look (and it looks more credible for a movie, rather than an overloaded bridal look!)

Bollywood Moments...

That awkward moment that you give the love of your life a watermelon. Whether to symbolise your love, or just to be original, it's certainly memorable. And also awkward.

BOLLYWOOD ISHTYLE: Dia's Dreamy Style in 'Love Breakups Zindagi'

I have yet to see a fashion blogger who doesn't love Dia Mirza, and it's no wonder, when she looks stunning almost every time we see her, and her dress sense is impeccable (just look here to see how well she pulls off the 'Meena Kumari' look). I was relieved that her recent film 'Love Breakups Zindagi' shows no different, Dia looks beautifully dressed in almost every scene, with her hair in beautiful curls and her make-up done up very subtly which looks very flattering. The film itself is not bad, but the story-line is not new (it reminded me a bit of Tanu Weds Manu, but with a bit less masala!) - but the wardrobe is beautiful.

Designed by Indian designers Ritu Kumar, with Manav Gangwani providing the costumes for one of the songs as well, I can see that a lot of work went into this outfits for this film, since not only the Asian outfits looked great, but the casual outfits and the Western outfits worn by the girls look carefully put together and very flattering.

First up is this absolutely beautiful white and gold dress, worn by Dia as part of a series of functions in the film for her friend's wedding. I love how classy and wearable it looks, it looks like something which has come off the catwalk, because of the flowy shape and the beautiful work. I also like how modest it looks, and how it looks like something which would suit women of any shape or age, and it certainly looks lovely with Dia's simple hair and make-up.

Next is this red and rich purple top, which has more of a fun look to it, especially as the jacket reminds me of a slightly Rajasthani style (so does the work on the skirt, actually), and the bold blocks of colours look great, especially with the mustard and purple hem. Again, this looks quite wearable, and very suitable for a wedding or a mehndi.

I also like the outfit her friend (the bride-to-be) wears, a yellow and multi-coloured suit, which makes a really pretty mehndi outfit. I like how the bright yellow top is balanced out by the skirt, which is made from colourful fabric, and also the fact that it's not a heavy outfit, but rather something which looks light and summery.

Also worn by Dia is this similarly funky salwar kameez outfit during the wedding function, while she is performing her dances. There is something quite 'Indian' about this to me, I have seen very similar outfits like this from India which look colourful like this, with similar work and are also comfortable, so it's easy to imagine finding something like this. I'm not sure about the cut-out style at the back, but Dia pulls it off well and it looks quite funky.

Next is the outfit worn by the bride-to-be the day before her wedding, which I thought was pretty because of how pretty the embroidery and work looked. The combination of orange, maroon and cream is an interesting one, but it seems to work and it looks quite elegant - I like the fact that the gold hem on the dupatta and the skirt tie the outfit together, without looking garish or cheap.

My favourite look in this film (if there are any!) is the one worn by the bride on her wedding day - it's quite a different one for a Bollywood film. I love seeing brides in colourful outfits, and this one is lovely - tea pink with blue, mint green and gold accents, which set off the outfit perfectly. I also like how her make-up and jewellery are not too heavy or light either, it's a very feminine look and one which could easily be replicated. The outfit also follows current trends with the long kameez and a lengha underneath, which looks quite traditional yet also has a slightly modern twist to it with the colours.

I also love the fact that the same outfit is worn casually by the bride after the ceremony, showing how she can dress it down (it wouldn't look out of place at an Asian function at all!), especially with the bride's hair worn a bit more casually and with her duppatta on her shoulder instead of her head - which really gives a different look.

Lastly is the outfit worn by Dia at the wedding, which looks beautifully traditional with her jewellery, and is a flattering off white and gold. Again, her hair and make-up are done very simply, but also compliments her whole look, and lets her beautiful features stand out. Her outfit is quite Punjabi-fied, which also looks great with the soft colours of the bride's outfit, and is similarly quite feminine.

All in all, I loved most of the outfits in this film - I liked the fact that all of these outfits are extremely wearable, yet look so beautifully made and with such flattering colours. There seems to be both a Pakistani and Indian influence on a lot of the outfits, and some of them are quite traditional too, yet also very wearable. I like the fact that most of the outfits are modest and practical - they have full sleeves, they are a flattering cut, and they are not over-done or unrealistic for a wedding.

Which one was your favourite outfit?

BOLLYWOOD ISHTYLE: Beautiful Brides in Housefull 2

I didn't think there would be much to look at in comedy sequel, Housefull 2, and to be honest, the storyline was a little predictable. What I did love was the beautiful bridal scenes at the end of the movie (spoilers, sorry!) which featured 4 beautiful actresses in some really colourful, bright bridal costumes which actually looked really nice together.

I liked how each bride was given her own individual look and colour to set them apart slightly, yet they all complimented each other and still managed to look slightly traditional Indian - and of course they all looked stunning. Here are the brides' in their full (and colourful) glory, complete with beautiful make-up and accessories.

First up was Asin's bridal look, who was the only bride who wore mainly red, with slight accents of green, giving a very traditional colour combination. I love her kundan-style jewellery, and the fact that the accessories were quite simple, letting the outfit shine, while the make-up was also kept quite neutral. I like the fact that both the outfit and the accessories of this bride are easy to find on the high street, and are quite in fashion (especially in some of the London high street shops!)

Next was Jacqueline, whose look I think I like the most, although it does help that she is an absolute stunner. Her colour combination was a bit more interesting, a mix of rusty orange, red and hot pink, which looked quite pretty together and still quite bridal, finished off with beaded jewellery and a pretty, long plait. Again, I like the fact that her face is not over-crowded, and the fact that the style of her choli is quite simple so it doesn't look too much with the heavy lengha.

After this was Shazahn, a new actress who looked very pretty and feminine in a very funky yellow lengha with purple, pink and red complimenting colours, which again gave a very bridal look but also made it look very stylish. I think this could have been a risky colour combination because there are a lot of colours, but it does look pretty together and is toned down by her pretty dupatta setting and the fact that her jewellery is chunky yet simple.

Lastly is Zarine, who has a very traditional look, right down to the hair pieces and the matta-patti she wears which look lovely with her pink shaded outfit.  She's also the most accessorised bride of them all, with regal-style jewellery, which is again, emphasised by her simple make-up style and less embellished outfit.  I didn't get to see this outfit properly, especially as Zarine's duppatta is pinned towards the front so the lengha is slightly covered at the front and gives more of a colour block, but it is nevertheless still a very pretty bridal look and looks the most traditional in terms of jewellery.

Overall, the bridal look of this film was stunning - and it just shows how much the styles of Bollywood has changed compared to the older eras of Bollywood. Although the brides' style may not be to everyone's taste (some of us may not like the half-choli look, for example), I definitely think these brides looks beautiful, and each look has been well-put together so they wouldn't look out of place on the catwalk or on a real bride! I also like the fact that the actresses wore the same outfits on the ramp for a fashion show later on too, which you can see pictures of here and here.

What did you think of these outfits, pretty and wearable, or too bright and gaudy? Which outfit did you like best?

Bollywood Moments...Colourful Duppatta Moments

I love this scene in this film, it's so vibrant, colourful and pretty and would probably make a great moment for someone's mehndi dance too. For now though, it's just twirling around in your room with a dupatta...!

BOLLYWOOD ISHTYLE: Asha Parekh Retro Glamour

I do love the 60s and 70s retro styles and beautiful, iconic looks of the time - eyeliner flicks, pretty saris and beehive hairstyles. I think this is a great example of an iconic, timeless look, which would still look amazing in today's trends. I'm not a huge fan of orange clothes, but Bollywood actress Asha Parekh looks great in this peachy orange sari, down to the pretty, sparkly jewellery.

What do you think of this look, something you would like to replicate?
