FRIDAY FASHION LINKS...!

I've been looking forward to today's post, because it features bloggers who I know and admire, and whose writing is great! Here they are below:

1. Ibreathshoes
This is a a blogger who I have followed online on Instagram for some time, and her journey has been pretty interesting to follow. She not only posts about fashion and her person style, which I love, but also posts recipes, her personal journeys and random lifestyle and foodie things! I also love the way she writes, which is down to earth and easy to get into (and sometimes long but worth a read!)

2. Sabrina Styles
This is a fun blogger whose posts I love because she is a blogger after my own heart. She posts about Pakistani fashion, how to mix Western wear with Asian outfits, as well as foodie reviews. I also love her fresh takes on affordable, easy-to-wear brands - definitely a must read!

3. Zai Khan

Not exactly a fashion blog, but a good read nevertheless! I especially loved her Affinity series, which is about couples mostly in the UK, and their stories. We often see couples and their Big Day, which are usually a full blown South Asian wedding affair, but there doesn't seem to be as much out there about the everyday lives of Asian couples, their relationships and their lives.  I thought this was a much needed view on couples, and a brilliant read. Zai Khan is currently planning another series (make sure you read her 'Trailblazing Women' series too!) and I am looking forward to that!

Hope you all have a good weekend, and a good read! x

Some good news...

"And among His signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): Verily in that are signs for those who reflect."
[Al-Rum: 21]

"It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love)."
[AI-A`raf: 189]

I don't often post about personal things (I know that sounds odd considering I post about my wardrobe and my purchases all week long!), since this is something I'm quite reserved about, but I thought I'd share some good news.

I’m happy to say that I’m getting married at the end of this year, and would like your prayers over the next few months as I take a new step in my journey towards good things. It’s something which has kept me emotional and ecstatic in turns over the last few weeks, and  I’d like to share my news and ask you to keep me in your prayers and share your advice, blessings and of course any tips you find helpful as I look forward to the rest of the year :)

I also thought I'd post whatever advice, reviews and tips I find about any bride-to-bes out there, (I promise I'll try not to be a bridezilla and over post about weddings!) particularly those of you who will be on a budget like myself, and need ideas on where to look (although be warned, I'm quite London-centric!)

Here's to an inspirational next six months, (especially now I've booked the dates and the halls!), and some good times to come.

Princess Hafizah of Brunei's Sparkly Wedding Extravaganza

Now here's a Royal Wedding to , Princess Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah of Brunieh married last weekend in a lavish wedding, with beautiful outfits to suit the occasion - I really do think she makes such a sweet looking bride, and I love how modest she seems, and the fact that she really wears her hijab with style, right down to the tiaras and crowns!

The Princess began her wedding by wearing a pretty, feminine lilac dress to her pre-wedding ceremony called the Powdering Ceremony, which seems like the equivalent of our mehndi nights, where the her parents the King, Queen and her other family applied ceremonial paste to her hands. I love how feminine and pretty this look seemed, I'm not a fan of lilac (or pastel colours!) but here it looked really elegant and suited the bride's colouring really well.

After this came the actual wedding day itself, where the couple, dressed in golds and creams attended a ceremony ahead of their wedding. I thought this dress was really flattering on the bride, and the bouquet was simple yet accompanied the outfit beautifully. The style of the dress seemed to be a maxi skirt with a fitted jacket and a beautifully long veil, which still covered her hair but allowed for her to wear some beautiful jewellery. I also really liked the fact that she also had pinky-red lips to glam up for the occasion, and the fact that her outfit looked like a South Asian wedding lengha. Her bouquet was a pretty, sparkly gold one which looked a bit like a brooch bouquet and again, her long veil acted as her hijab which was accessorised with a crown.

I also loved what the newly-weds wore to a banquet held in their honour just two days ago - the bride wore a beautiful grey dress with diamond and emerald jewellery, making a beautiful colour combination. Again, the dress looked very similar to a lengha, accessorised with pretty make-up and an elegant looking clutch bag.

Images taken from here and here

I think this Royal Wedding was a really sweet one, the couple looked really modest and happy, and I love the fact that the Princess was a hijabi bride, complete with tiara and all! My favourite outfit is probably the grey one with the emerald jewellery, simply because I love the colour combination and it looks so sparkly, but the bride looked beautiful throughout!

Wedding Preps!

There wasn't as much running around to do for my sister's wedding day, compared to how much we had to do for the mehndi night, mainly because most of the things had been organised and finalised months before.

We mostly spent the night before the wedding with family, joking around together, as well as just making final checks on things like the favour boxes (which we filled with personalised Love Heart sweets, pink and white heart shaped jelly sweets and various nuts and sugared treats), and putting together the guest book (with a baby picture of both bride and groom!) We also spent the evening pampering (or trying to!) and doing last-minute things like putting on nail varnishes and arranging our bangles  - and not getting a lot of sleep! :)

BOLLYWOOD ISHTYLE: Vidya's 60's Simplicity in Parineeta

Parineeta was Vidya Balan's debut into the Bollywood World, in a colourful 60s style which mainly consists of fitted kameezes and colourful saris. There's not many heavy or overdone outfits in this film, instead it focuses on soft and pretty colours, and simple styles which reflect the time period. There are a few outfits and colours which caught my eye though, especially as Vidya has a very innocent look for this film.

The first suit I liked was this rich purple outfit, with embellishment on the sleeves and a bright green dupatta. I like the fact that this is something we can imagine the older generation wearing, it's something a lot of us have seen before in the past and the colours are flattering without being too bright. I also liked the long plait!

This next sari is a dressy red one which Vidya wears, along with some of the more heavier jewellery which she wears in this film, as we as a rose in her hair which instantly brings to mind the classic (and almost cliched!) style of the 60s. I like the fact that the focus is on the bright red of the sari, and the fact that her make-up and the flower in her hair is aligned with her outfit.

This is more of a romantic pink sari from one of the scenes in the film which is meant to give a dreamy style to the whole look. I like the fact that again, the style is kept very simple, the make-up and hair is kept very minimal and it's something which is very easy to imagine being worn in the 60s.

This is another red sari worn by the actress, again, focusing on the red fabric and the rich banarsi-style fabric of the blouse. Although it's not very dramatic or heavily embellished, it's more realistic in terms of putting together a style which would be easier for the ordinary consumer.

There's a lot of pretty hair accessories also worn by the heroine, which I noticed, which appealed to me most about the look of the outfits and the style of this film. I remember my mum telling me about similar earrings and hair pieces she used to wear when she was younger, and I can certainly see the appeal of wearing pretty hair pieces where you might want to jazz up an outfit!

Throughout the film, Vidya's outfits are pretty yet also quite simple, with the focus being on slightly fitted kameezes and feminine colours which are easy to imagine being worn back in the 60s. I think for Vidya's first film this was quite a successful look for her, it's quite modest and realistic, as well as very understated which allows her character to emphasise herself further.

Similarly, the make-up and and other accessories such as bangles and earrings are kept very simple and minimalistic, with the emphasis being on natural colours and traditional jewellery. I love these two images below, as they give such a lovely example of the style of the film and the amount of work put into the film to make it seem more authentic. Again, these are very achievable looks which are well-put together and give more of a subtle look.

And of course, a cameo number from Rekha in a deep-red numberm which is emphasised by the red rose in her hair and her deep red lips. Not sure how authentic this is for being a 60's style outfit, but I did think it made an interesting addition to the 60s look in terms of the evening-club-dancer look, and the fact that the directors chose an older woman like Rekha rather than a young actress to do an 'item' style number.

Some lovely, simple outfits here - although this film may not be the first to come to mind when you think of 60s glamour, it gives a good interpretation of it, and I like the fact that a lot of these looks are very achievable. I also think that this film has some very pretty saris which are worn well by the women in this film, and also accessorised well to emphasise the freshness of the actresses' faces rather than over-crowding it with too much.

QUIRKY FASHION: Love Hearts Lip Tints and Balms

I'm sure you've seen hundreds of Love Heart sweets inspired merchandise (I've seen personalised Love Heart sweets for weddings, Love Heart jewellery and even Love Heart cakes!), so it's pretty inevitable that make up would be the next route! Saw these today and though they were cute, Love Heart lip balms and tints, and (beneath) Love Heart nail varnish. Not sure how popular they are yet but they are pretty cute and very cheap as well. Not sure yet if I'd buy them myself, but feel free to let me know what you think of them if you've bought them, and whether you'd recommend them!

GLAMOROUS ACCESSORIES: Romantic Blue Earrings from Anwar

Earrings are such a romantic gift, don't you think? One scene which will always stick out from that excellent film Anwar is when the film's namesake hero gives a pair of lovely blue earrings to the woman he's fallen in love in. And what lovely earrings they are, sparkling blue and silver and beautifully crafted to go with the lovely smile of the wearer. Anyone got any earrings like these?
